COMING TO ST. JUDE

I was born in Columbus, Ohio. Tennessee is the fifth state where I have lived. I worked in the auto industry for 20 years in human resources and finance, and I came to St. Jude after being HR director for a small HBCU in Huntsville, Alabama.

I learned about St. Jude during my visits with my college roommate, who moved here approximately 30 years ago. We’re like sisters, and she often encouraged me to move to Memphis. It has been such a joy to be able to hang out with her and her family.

I started working at St. Jude in 2021 after applying for a position that seemed to be tailor-made for me. My responsibilities offer a unique way to positively impact employees and the operations of St. Jude, allowing us to continue our mission.

As the St. Jude Title IX Coordinator, I work in a position of trust that I consider a privilege as I listen to concerns and offer supportive measures.

I love that St. Jude is such a mission-driven organization. St. Jude is different from any place I have worked. There is a positivity in the air that is tangible sometimes. Employees are affirmed often and urged to understand how their work contributes to the St. Jude mission. This understanding inspires us to do our best work and exhibit the St. Jude values.

In November 2024, I was promoted to Compliance Program Administrator in Human Resources. My position is a wonderful combination of Title IX administration, planning, remote work processing, and other compliance-related activities that allow St. Jude to operate successfully.

GIVING BACK TO MEMPHIS

I started volunteering when I moved to Memphis to meet people, learn more about the city, and make a positive contribution in my community.

While helping with food distribution at the Cordova YMCA and Binghampton Community Church, I met all kinds of people who told me about Memphis politics, good restaurants, and other activities.

I also enjoy volunteering at St. Jude because it combines having a good time and contributing to the success of an event. I’ve volunteered for the Jude Lights holiday event for two years. We wave and greet employees with their families and distribute small gifts.

It’s a great way to spread joy and cheer.

I also enjoy volunteering at institutional events for employees. When St. Jude initiated the Cultural Exchange and Conversation Partners program in 2022, I joined with the purpose of getting to know someone from a different culture. My conversation partner and I have become friends, and we still meet for dinner once a month.

MY MEMPHIS FAVORITES

What are some of your favorite restaurants in Memphis? Memphis is full of impressive places to eat. I have many favorites—Big Bad Breakfast; Biscuits and Jams; Brother Juniper’s; Petals of Peony; Amerigo’s; and Queen of Sheba. My new favorite is Mahogany River Terrace on Mud Island. It has a beautiful view of the river, fantastic ambience, and delicious food.

How do you like to spend weekends in Memphis? My favorite place to go on the weekend is Shelby Farms Park. Free Pilates on Saturday, weekly walks around the lake, and taking pictures of the bison and horses are fun. It is such a nice place to see people of all ages and ethnicities enjoying being out in nature.
