Situated just above East Memphis, Berclair is a seven-minute drive from Shelby Farms Park and a 15-minute drive from St. Jude. Summer Avenue, one of the city’s main drags, was once known as the “Highway of America.” Today, it is a popular destination for thrift store shopping in Memphis.

Berclair-Highland Heights consists of cozy homes and quiet streets and is home to Aurora Collegiate Academy and Grahamwood Elementary, some of the city’s top primary schools. Berclair was originally developed shortly after WW2, to accommodate smaller families. Today, it is largely considered convenient for its proximity to Downtown Memphis and family-friendly for its affordable housing.

Revitalization efforts bring the Berclair community together. Over 750 residents of Berclair and The Heights helped clean up Gaisman Park. Volunteers built and planted flower beds and painted benches while children enjoyed a bounce house.

The typical home in Berclair-Highland Heights is a small, one-story, ranch-style home, usually situated along tree-lined streets.

In the 1960’s Summer Avenue was the antique mecca of Memphis, and today, it remains a popular destination for thrift store shopping.

Adventurous eaters will enjoy the eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes, including Jerry’s Sno Cones, where you can order a Sno Cone Supreme that features a dollop of ice cream on top.
